If you have ancestors with the surname variations spelling listed above. we invite you to join us in this project. DNA analysis for genealogy research may help us discover information about our families. Paper records may be lost, but our DNA is direct link to our ancestors who lived hundreds of years ago. Y chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test can determine relation between individuals and families.  Y-DNA which is passed down through the generations from father to sons only. It is by comparing that single test with others in a database that is becomes valuable. That is the purpose of this project.

A Genealogical DNA test examines the locations of a person's DNA for genetic purposes. The test results are not meant to have any informative medical value and do not determine specific genetic diseases or disorders. They are intended only to give genealogical information. Genealogical DNA tests generally involve comparing the results of living individuals to historic populations.

Y chromosome (Y-DNA) testing

A Man's  ancestry, or male-line ancestry, can be traced using the DNA on his Y chromosome (Y-DNA) through testing. This is useful bacause the Y chromosome passes down almost unchanged from father to son, ie, Y chromosome do not change. A man's test results are compared to another man's results to determine the time frame in which the two individuals shared a most recent common ancestor. If their test results are a perfect match, they are related within genealogy's time frame.

Procedure

The general procedure for taking a genealogical DNA test involves taking a painless cheek-scraping (also known as a buccal swab) at home and mailing the sample to a genetic genealogy laboratory for testing.

My Y chromosome (Y-DNA 46 marker) testing was performed through Ancestry.com
